Has somebody ever done something to you or something just happen to you…that ruined your whole day? Someone cuts you off on the freeway or they left a shopping cart in that one parking space at store. Maybe that light bulb burned out just when you needed it or the store didn’t have that one item that you really wanted. There are events that hit us and are gone…but ruin our whole day. We get angry or frustrated or irritated and it colors your whole day. I saw a skit where a guy gets splashed by a car and his friend does too. The guy is just beside himself and he is going to be mad all day long. The friend brushes himself off as best he can and just shakes his head. The first guy says, “Aren’t you mad at what happened?” The friend says “Yeah, but it’s over
and I have no way of changing it. So, I’ll just not let it ruin my whole day”. The first guy says, “How in the world can you not let it ruin your whole day?” The other guy responds by pulling out this huge roll of $1 bills. He takes one and just rips it into tiny pieces. The first guy looks at him like he is crazy. The friend holds up the fragments of the one-dollar bill and blows the little pieces away. And then he says to his friend, that one dollar bill is gone…but I have 1,439 more right here. There is nothing wrong with these…should I throw them away too because of the one bad dollar bill? I didn’t let it affect the other 1,439 dollars…I’m not going to just throw them away because these are still good. It is the same way with our lives. We get 1, 440 minutes every day we live on this earth. Why should what happens in one minute destroy the possibilities and potential of all the other minutes. There is nothing wrong with them! As a follower of this Jesus of the Bible we need to hold on to the truth that this is the day the Lord has made…all 1,440 minutes of it. Because someone stole part of it…either human or the devil…that doesn’t mean that the rest of it should go to waste. With Christ in you, you, can say “This is the day the Lord has made. I will choose to rejoice and…to be glad in it. Don’t waste the minutes or the days and especially not the years. They are a precious gift…use them wisely and most of all enjoy them.
