Daily Devotional #1,820

The pastor was standing at the church door welcoming people at the Easter morning service. He shook the hand  of one man and said, "Let me introduce myself. I'm the pastor of this church. We are pleased to have you  visiting with us today. “The stranger said, "Now, wait a minute, pastor. I'm a member of this church, not a  visitor." The perplexed pastor said, "But I've never seen you here in the five years I've been here."  The stranger responded, "Well, I never said I was a fanatic."
That little story has an important message. A lot of people are fans of Jesus. God wants fanatics for Jesus. So  often we view a relationship with the savior that is kind of like dating. I like you a bunch but I’m kind of  playing the field here in life. The Bible let’s us know that we are to be committed followers. Jesus said that we  are to give up everything and take up our cross and follow him. That means that a serious relationship with  Christ is what we are called to. And Jesus is pretty honest when he says that not many will go this road. There  is an easier road in this life…but it is not with him. So the question for every person is simply “Are you a fan  or are you a fanatic?” Like Joshua said to the Israelites in the last chapter of the book named after him…if you  don’t want to serve the Lord…then choose who you will serve…But as for me and my house we will serve the  Lord. God calls us to love him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. And when you really do that…you  are indeed a fanatic! Good for you!! Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Romans 12:11 BSB Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Remember I’m praying for you…
