My Grandparent’s house and ranch buildings were destroyed yesterday. The day before I had an opportunity to go out to the ranch with a few family members and walk through the buildings and the houses that held so many memories, especially of my youth, for me. No one had lived on the ranch for many years and vagrants had trashed the insides of each place and it was time for them to be razed. The interiors of the houses were beyond reasonable repair, but instead of being dismayed at their condition, I was taken back to my childhood. I thought of the Christmases and Easters and birthdays that we celebrated out there. A full crowd of my family would
have included ten adults and fourteen grandchildren. I thought of the joy and just plain fun that we shared. I remembered the people who sat in those rooms, prepared food for us all and even the first color TV that I got to watch Bonanza on! The buildings are gone as of yesterday, but the memories of the love and joy and things that delighted our young hearts still live in me. I thought of all the people who no longer journey with us on this earth…and the memories of them brought me a quiet happiness in the midst of the unrecognizable landscape and the decaying structures. I thought about that…about how love that is given is never really forgotten. In the Bible, the book of Hebrews tells us that God is not unjust…and he will not forget how hard you work for him. And he counts you showing your love to God by the love that you share with other believers. That love is never forgotten by God…and it is never forgotten by those you have shared life with and encouraged, comforted and blessed by what you have said and done. Remember that a lot of stuff will fade away…but that love expressed in real action will never be forgotten…even after you are gone. And that love that God counts as being offered to him through your ministry to others, will last forever. So, make some history today and show that love and caring for others and especially fellow followers of this Jesus of the Bible. Because when you get to heaven, they will remember the goodness that you brought to the lives of others and in doing so you demonstrated your love for the God of the Bible. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Hebrews 6:10 NLT For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
Remember I’m praying for you…
