Daily Devotional #1,822

I’m going to do something that I love today. I’m going to be at my church, by our lake, and I’m going to  celebrate The Lord’s Supper, communion, with folks who will join me over a two-hour period. People in the  early church did this all the time, some probably daily. Why? Well, when Jesus did this for the first time with  his disciples, he told them and us, that we should do this in remembrance of him. And the Apostle Paul wrote  that “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” It is  a continual announcement of the reality of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. And when we voluntarily join in this, we are
affirming that Jesus’ death was necessary…to sacrifice on the cross for our sins. But at the end of what Paul  wrote, he said that “you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes”. We are not just looking backwards to the  cross, but it calls us to look forward to Christ’s second coming…that he promises in the Bible that he will  return. So, I will enjoy sharing in this special proclamation of faith today. I will look into their eyes and pray  for them and for our time together. And I will leave ready to celebrate Easter and the resurrection of the one  who loved me so much that he paid for my sins on that cross. And you know what? He did the same thing for  you as well. You proclaim the Lord’s death too, until he comes…or you go to him. Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

1 Corinthians 11:25-26 BSB In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new  covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (26) For as often as you eat  this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Remember I’m praying for you…
