Daily Devotional #1,831

It was January 2, 1987 and the game was the Fiesta Bowl and the winner would be college football’s national  champion. Miami was ranked number one in the nation and Penn State ranked number two. The game was  close but Penn State won in the end with a 14-10 victory. Their stubborn defense managed to hold off Miami’s  talented quarterback Vinny Testaverde and held them in the closing minutes of the game. After the game TV  cameras and microphones zoomed in on different Penn State players and when one linebacker was asked how  they won, he said that our hard-hitting defensive backs made the difference. He said that the Miami receivers  just didn’t want to catch the ball…that they “heard footsteps all night long and just didn’t want to get hit”. How  about you? Do you walk through your life “hearing footsteps”, afraid that you are going to get pounded by  life? There are a lot of things out there that can bring us to that, everything from failure to grief. God doesn’t  call his children to a life of fear and timidity, but to one of power, love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). That’s  easy to say, but how do we go on when our hearts or our spirits or our confidence are broken? When the walls  seem to cave in on you remember that the God of creation and redemption has promised that he will be with  you wherever you go. When Joshua was put in a position of leading the people of Israel into the land that God
has promised, there were all kinds of dangers and obstructions before them. But he told the people first to look  to God’s Word, to meditate on it and do what it tells us to do. And then God will break through the barriers of  life with you. And then he said God was telling them this: (Joshua 1:9 BSB) “Have I not commanded you to  be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you  wherever you go.” No matter what the “footsteps” are that you are hearing in life right now, God is right there  with you. Your job is to take the next step by faith, knowing that God is with you wherever you go. You do that  and you will be the champion that God has destined you to be. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Joshua 1:9 BSB Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be  discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Remember I’m praying for you…
