Daily Devotional #1,832

The great World War II English Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, gave a commencement address to his alma  mater, Harrow School, in London in 1941. As the story goes, Churchill stepped up to the podium and simply  said “Never give up”. The crowd cheered and Churchill had to stop. When it was quiet he repeated the phrase  “Never give up”. This time the crowd went crazy, and he had to stop for several minutes before he could go on.  When the cheering stopped, Churchill once again with much passion declared “Never give up!” He then sat  down to the cheers of the people. And this speech, which is called the best in history, would be passed down for  generations. The problem is Churchill never gave that speech…exactly. What the historians claim is that he  talked about never giving in and the speech was two pages long. It still must have been pretty impressive for  folks to grab it and remember it as something else. I do like the idea of simply telling those graduates not to  give up. We need that kind of encouragement, and the Bible gives us that. But how do we keep on going when  so many people give up on so many different things? It takes a lot of strength to keep on going when weariness,  failure, grief or hostility seem to be all we can see. To not give up we must have hope. The prophet Isaiah  wrote “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar on high on wings like eagles; they
will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31). That’s how you keep from giving up  on yourself and giving up on God. But if we do this and “never give up” what is the end game? Well, the Bible  tells us that too. Galalatians 6:9 NLT… “ So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we  will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” God is telling us that not giving up on him and his plan for  your life is going to bring a harvest of blessing…if we don’t quit. So even though Winston Churchill didn’t  exactly say it…Never, Never, Never give up. Because the God of the Bible promises that if you don’t quit on  him, he won’t quit on you…and his reward will make it all worth it. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Galatians 6:9 NLT So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of  blessing if we don’t give up.
Remember I’m praying for you…
