Daily Devotional #1851

As a kid, I remember going to the movies and watching Walt Disney’s animated movie “Pinocchio” for the first  time. And I remember vividly Jiminy Cricket telling Pinocchio, and me, that we needed to let our conscience be  our guide. That’s pretty good advice except for the reality that our conscience is not perfect. We all have a  conscience, but it can be shaped by misinformation or dulled by sin. All people have a conscience and yet  continue to say and do things that are hurtful and sinful. That conscience is an internal moral compass but so  often is flawed. So how can you decide what is right and live in a way that honors the God to whom all of us  are accountable to? Well, when you choose to give your heart and life to this Jesus of the Bible, God fills you  with his spirit, called the Holy Spirit. And what he does is to show us truth according to God and brings our  conscience in line with God’s will. The Holy Spirit will use our conscience to guide us by convicting and  cleansing our hearts, allowing it to function properly. So, remember that your conscience can be swayed by our  upbringing or our surroundings and even our experiences. What God’s Holy Spirit does is to bring God’s truth,  as revealed in the Bible, to bear on our situations. So as a follower of Jesus Christ, how can you tell if your  conscience is leading you in the right direction? We simply need to check our beliefs, attitudes and actions  against what the Bible tells us. And Jiminy Cricket’s advice needs to go from “let your conscience be your  guide” to “let God’s Holy Spirit be your guide” to keep you from straying out of the lane of life that God wants  you to travel with him. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Romans 12:2 NLT Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new  person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and  pleasing and perfect.
Remember I’m praying for you…
