Daily Devotional #1862

We were going through some old boxes that had been in the rafters of the garage and in one of them I found a  treasure. It was a New Testament that my dad had given me many years ago. What made this special is that it  was a New Testament that had a metal cover for it. Inside it had my grandmother’s name and my dad’s name  and rank from 1943. It was a Bible that was sold to parents of those who were going into harm’s way. The  tagline inside reads “The Heart-Shield Bible…Fits snugly in the uniform pocket. The engraved gold-plated  steel front cover protects his heart.” I don’t know how much physical protection that piece of metal would  provide, but the God whom it talks about can protect you from anything. My grandmother wanted Dad to have  God’s word with him always and she prayed to that God of the Bible every day he was gone. God’s word is  important to every person in every setting, and it is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is  wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. And it gives us the  wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. That Bible really was and is a “Heart Shield” for not only those in armed battle, but for all of us who are in the battle with the unseen forces of evil  every day. Those folks selling those Bibles were more on point than I think they realized. Keep that Bible close  and don’t keep it on the desk, shelf or in your pocket. Read it and let the God who loves you speak to you and  bring his protection to your heart and life and soul. Open it up today and find out! Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

Proverbs 30:5 NLT Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.  Remember I’m praying for you…
