In 2007 an experiment was done in a Washington D.C. subway. A man was stationed there expertly playing a violin with his case open for donations. In the 45 minutes he played 1097 people passed by and he collected $32.00. The musician was Joshua Bell and he was playing a 3 ½ million-dollar Stradivarius violin and had come from a sellout performance in Boston. For the most part people didn’t stop and they didn’t listen and they certainly didn’t show any appreciation. They looked at a musician in the subway and never saw the virtuoso in their midst. That’s a lesson for us. We look at people differently that God does. We all to often judge people’s worth by what we see at a glance. God doesn’t look at things that way. We people judge by the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. That means that there are people of great worth all around you every day. And while you might appreciate them, we can miss seeing the heart that person may have for the God of the Bible and for the people that they love. But it goes the other way too. You may feel unappreciated by those in your world. It could be in your marriage or with your kids or by your employer or even folks who you consider friends. When you come to Christ and are declared God’s children, your worth is unmeasurable. Not because of what you have done, but because of what God has done in you and for you. You are dear to God and beloved by God and prized by him. So, remember that there are hidden treasures out there walking around your world. Look beyond the outward appearance and get a glimpse of the love and character and compassion that makes them who they are. And don’t forget that you too are more loved and precious than you can know this side of heaven. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Samuel 16:7 NLT “The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Remember I’m praying for you…
