I've seen it from baseball players, football players, basketball players and so many others. When they have the opportunity, they publicly praise the God of the Bible for who he is and what he has done. And then people from all over the world came to America to play for the World Cup and I saw and heard players from different countries, speaking different languages praising God. It was just great! But I got to thinking about that. These are athletes that live and work in a pretty exclusive environment. And even when they don't win that championship or score that run or make that winning touchdown...they have a lot going for them. But what about those of us who not only aren't in the spotlight ever, but we carry hurts and disappointments and grief. What do we do? That's where real deep faith lives and I think praises in those time of heartbreak are super precious to God. Psalms 56:8 reminds us that God keeps track of all our sorrows and that he has collected all our tears in his bottle. And he records each one of them in his book.
God knows your wounded or weary or broken heart. So imagine what your praise, springing from your faith in him, must now look to God. How precious that must be to him! So if you find yourself in a season not of joyous victory or unbridled happiness, but in a time that tries your faith, know that this is your opportunity to do what others cannot do. You can rise in your pain and honor the God who loves you so very much with praises from your heart and mouth. If God thinks your tears are precious to him, imagine what a treasure he must see your praises to be at that time. Bless the Lord all the time...let his praises be on your lips. This is your time, your opportunity to do what many can't. To experience pain and take it and praise the God who is worthy of all honor today and tomorrow and forever.
