Daily Devotional #1899

A Sunday school teacher was endeavoring to impress upon a class of boys the importance of living the Christian life. “Why do people call me a Christian?” the man asked. After a moment's pause, one youngster said, “Maybe it's because they don't know you." How would people know that you are a Christian, a follower of this Jesus of the Bible? It would start with your affirmation that you trust him as God who became flesh, who died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day. Also people could see your patience and joy and peace that come from God's Holy Spirit. But Jesus said there was one way that the world would know that you are a follower of him. And that is the love that we have for one another. The Apostle John reminded all who seek to be followers of this Jesus that we need to continue to love one another, because love comes from God. And anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love, does not know God, for God is love (1 John 4:7-8). So love is the key...it always is. God's love for us, our love for God and our love for each other. And that's the reason people can call you a Christian. Here's our Bible verse for today...
John 13:35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples."
Remember I'm praying for you,
