I just got back from a fun event. Some of our folks from church went to an outdoor air museum with over 80 different aircraft on display. And we went yesterday because it was “Open Cockpit Day”. What that means is that many of the planes were open for you to either climb up a hardstand to look into or to even get to go inside some of the larger ones. I love airplanes and this was fun. However, because these are all older military planes, comfort and ease of movement was not the main concern in designing them. That meant that we people who were not used to these tight spaces had to be careful. Well, in my enthusiasm to see as much as I could in one day, I was moving quickly…and not paying as much attention to what was going on around me. I hit my head a number of times on doors, equipment and metal supports. Fortunately I’ve got a pretty hard head (at least that’s what people say) and though it hurt, it didn’t do any permanent damage. I thought about that as I looked at my head in the mirror at home and thought about being careful, not just on antique airplanes, but in life itself. The Apostle Paul wrote that we need to pay attention to how we walk in life. He said that we need to walk with the wisdom that God gives us in his Bible. To not do so is to live carelessly. As a follower of Jesus Christ we are to live a life that pleases God. That’s the job. But also we are to live well before those who have not yet given themselves to a believing relationship with this Jesus of the Bible. We have the mandate and really the opportunity let our lives shine in Christ and let God use that to draw others to that saving relationship with him. Sometimes, like on a military plane, you need to just slow down, take a look at where you are and where you are headed next. And it makes all difference in the world to listen to the one who is guiding you in life or in the tight spaces of a World War II bomber. And if you do end up getting bumped around because of carelessness, don’t let it stop you but get up, rub your bruises and keep going and be careful where you step and where you are headed. Remember that you are important to God and he has plans to use you in this rescue operation that is going on in human history right now. Pay careful attention to how you are walking because the time gets shorter every day and
