When was the last time you went to a Drive-In movie? I did last night…kind of. We turned our Chapel into a
drive-in movie theater. The kids made their own cars out of cardboard boxes and decorated them and then sat in
them and watched Disney’s “Swiss Family Robinson”. Now we had nearly 30 kids there and the quiet watching
of the 2-hour movie lasted…maybe 20 minutes. The kids got out of their cars and got snacks and then visited
from car to car. They kept moving for about the next 90 minutes! They have so much energy…and we had a
lot of fun. I was in the back monitoring the computer for the movie so I could see all the action before me and
our team members ushering movie goers back to their own vehicles. They talked and laughed and got up and
moved around and then sat down… and then started all over again. At one point our team members had to grab
some kids who had a stuffed toy cat and were passing it back and forth like a football. And off to the side were
two boys whose cars were in fact tanks with cardboard barrels in the front. They had removed the barrels and
were dueling with them like swords. Our team was able to restore order better than Wyatt Earp in Tombstone.
They had energy and they had fun! As I thought about all those kids, I couldn’t help but think of the verse in
the prophet Isaiah that says that those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on
wings like eagles, and they will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. I thought…that energy
and passion is available to us too…when we put out trust in the Lord. Like the unbounded excitement the kids
demonstrated last night…we can live our lives like that too…minus the cat and the tank barrels! So, when you
find yourself just sitting in your “car” with the world being played out before you…remember to make the
conscious effort to trust in the Lord and find that new strength for life right now and be a part of the action.
Then God will put his enthusiasm in you, and you too will soar high on wings like eagles. Never forget that
God wants you to live a life, filled with joy and purpose and passion. But never forget that all that is found in
trusting in this God of the Bible. Do that, and live bit on the wild side for Jesus today!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Isaiah 40:31 NLT But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Remember I’m praying for you…
