Daily Devotional #1,751

I have always loved the story of a wealthy businessman who was horrified to see a fisherman sitting beside his  boat, playing with a small child.
"Why aren't you out fishing?" asked the businessman.
"Because I caught enough fish for one day," replied the fisherman.
"Why don't you catch some more?
"What would I do with them?"
"You could earn more money," said the businessman. "Then with the extra money, you could buy a bigger boat,  go into deeper waters, and catch more fish. Then you would make enough money to buy nylon nets. With the  nets, you could catch even more fish and make more money. With that money you could own two boats, maybe  three boats. Eventually you could have a whole fleet of boats and be rich like me."
"Then what would I do?" asked the fisherman.
"Then," said the businessman, "you could really enjoy life."
The fisherman looked at the businessman quizzically and asked, "What do you think I am doing now?"
I love that story because it asks us the question of “What is enough?” What will it take to make you satisfied in  life. You can have little in life…and still find contentment. And you can have much, but like one multi millionaire who was asked “How much money is enough?”, answered back…just a little bit more. The really  amazing thing is that with a strong and sweet relationship with this Jesus of the Bible, one result in your life is  the ability to experience contentment. Jesus is recorded as saying that the Devil is a thief that comes to steal,  kill and destroy…your heart and soul and your peace.. But Jesus said that he came to give you and me  life…and it would be life to the fullest. So, step back and take a look at what you are chasing in life. Let God  give you confidence in his love and forgiveness and provision that you can actually enjoy life. The first
question of a Christian teaching tool asks, “What is the main purpose for life?” And the answer is “To glorify  God and enjoy him forever”. Let him bring contentment to your heart and soul…and allow you to enjoy him  and life forever. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Timothy 6:6-10 NLT Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. (7) After all, we brought  nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. (8) So if  we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. (9) But people who long to be rich fall into temptation  and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. (10) For the  love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true  faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
Remember I’m praying for you…
